A 1950's Happy Halloween Back in the day, when I was growing up, costumes were always homemade. Moms had to be very creative to come up with a character every year based on what was available in the closet or the attic. Happy Halloween

We knew everyone in the neighbor and they knew us. We went door to door with no fear of being harmed in any way. The most fun was in having your friends parents trying to guess who you were. The candy was great, but fooling the parents was even greater.

all the children say
as they get their bags filled with candy
and scurry on their way.
fast as they can go
looking for porch lights
and pumpkins all aglow.
Some are scary some are cute
all shapes and sizes wanting the loot.
give them chills and leave 'em spellbound.
Finally done bags are full
now hurry off to home
as the next day they often have school.
And Mom puts what's left on top of the refrigerator.
Kiss them goodnight and tuck them in bed
and soon visions of all their candies dance in their head.
ate to much candy when will they ever learn.
Glad Halloween comes only once a year
although in their costumes they are so dear.
and this time next year we'll do it all again!
